Contorniates, late 4th-early 5h century. Contorniate (Bronze, 37 mm, 19.20 g, 7 h), in the names of Nero, 54-68, and Diva Faustina Senior, † 140/1. IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P MAX Laureate head of Nero to right; before, monogram of PE (inlaid in silver). Rev. DIVA FAV-STINA AVG Veiled Diva Faustina Senior standing front, head to left, sacrificing from patera held in her right hand over lit altar to left. Alföldi 225.3 and pl. 98, 8 (this coin). Very rare. A beautifully patinated piece with a splendid pedigree. Light cleaning marks and very minor doubling, otherwise, very fine.
